Ford Hall, Smith College
Molecular Science and Engineering BuildingFord Hall is a new building for science and engineering at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. This 140,000 sq ft, $73m facility will house the Picker Engineering Program, the first engineering program at a women's college in the United States, as well as Smith's programs in biochemistry, chemistry and computer science.
The facility's design incorporates numerous features to support the building's long-term sustainability, including green roofs, porous pavement, sustainable building materials, innovative mechanical systems and a unique heat and power cogeneration system. Deconstruction and reuse of materials from the buildings currently on site further enhances the project's sustainability. Upon completion, the building achieved LEED Gold Certification.
My contributions to this project included design development, production of construction documents, engineering systems coordination and research into materials, assemblies and building codes.

Science and Technology Center, Clarion University of Pennsylvania
Completed in 2009, the Science and Technology Center at Clarion University of Pennsylvania houses the university's science programs. The 93,500 sq ft, $34 million facility received LEED certification; at completion, it was the largest and most energy efficient educational building in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.
Features enhancing the building's sustainability include the use of photovoltaic panels for electricity generation, efficient mechanical systems, incorporation of the planetarium and a lecture hall from the original Pierce Science Center, reclamation of materials from the demolished portions of Pierce Center and the addition of green space to the campus.
My contributions to this project included production of detailed construction documents, engineering systems coordination and miscellaneous research.
